Making Mechanicals

I’ve been collecting bits from metal recycling at work to make costumes and props for the Mechanicals in AMND.

Today bink added a broken watch. I removed its back and SweePo is wearing it innards-side out as a belt.  (The Mechanicals are described as "hempen homespuns" so their costumes will be made of some oatmealish textiles.)

Much tinkering to come, but already the parts are coming together into a forest.

  1. I recently learned the word 'hempen' and what it means, courtesy the British television series, "The Repair Shop."

Used in reference to spinning, hempen is the bits and snags of wool found outdoors that children (especially) were tasked with collecting, which would be processed into rovings to be hand-spun into yarns. What a delightful image that brings up, though maybe not so much fun for the children who did the collecting.

Glad Marz is home again. Home the sailor, from the sea(school)!
