An Ocean of Relief

Thanks for your good wishes about my work hours, everybody!

Thankgod, Big Boss just called and said he understood my concerns about workplace safety--he himself had had a bad dream about Covid (I was surprised--he always seems unconcerned)--and while it wouldn't work for me to come in alone on Sundays, for safety reasons, I could come earlier on weekday mornings--he gets there early--and work a couple hours.

That means my hours will be cut from 24 per week to 10, but I totally don't care. As I wrote earlier, I was even willing to take unpaid leave. I can live on my savings until something changes--the vaccine, the season, the end of the world? Whatever!

I'm hugely relieved he was willing to be flexible without any kind of fuss.
I wish I could ask for what I want or need without feeling so nervous. But at least I don't let nervousness stop me from asking, which I used to do when I was younger.

Rereading my email to BB, I see I also did a good job asking--I didn't go into all sorts of detail that might seem like blame and spark resentment--I was brief and clear and friendly, and also I had a PLAN--not just a concern.
I learned that as a copy editor. If you point out problems but don't suggest solutions, people often won't do the work. I don't blame them!

Meanwhile, Spike was at the Pacific Ocean.

Which means Marz was too.
She is done working unpaid at the goat farm and is coming home! I will be so glad to see her!

What did she learn?

"Don't give yourself away for someone else's dream. Work for your own."

Spike says that she (Spike) already knew that. She just went along for the scenery.

  1. Hooray for coming home! Spike looks very happy to be beside the seaside :)
I agree it is far better to work for your own dream, it just isn't always possible.

  2. I hope Marz and Spike, anyway, will keep happy memories of the acquaintances they made with goats.

  3. Thanks, River & GZ!

TORORO: Oh, yes, Marz really liked the goats, and many of the other animals, especially the wild farm cats. She said she'll miss them.

  4. I'm glad your boss was willing to be flexible about your schedule. It sounds like a very reasonable request! It's in their interest to have fewer people around at any given time, too.
