"Kiss me, Hardy"

It's fun that readers have interpreted the line "Eat me, Hardy" in my pandemic drabble in different ways--as pirate-speak, or a play on "eat heartily", etc.  I was thinking of Horatio Nelson's dying words to Capt. Thomas Hardy: "Kiss me, Hardy."
Hardy seems a good name for a scrappy little dog. (But, is that character a dog? Or what?)

Article about this and other details of Nelson's death, from the Royal Museum at Greenwich: www.rmg.co.uk/discover/explore/death-nelson.

I love when photos unintentionally mimic paintings.
Here's a photo of "a drunken reveler in Manchester [that is] being compared to paintings of the Death of Nelson."

P.S. Michael commented, "I bet the Nelson scene inspired the kiss in the silent film Wings." WWI aviators are like naval heroes, that fits. Here's a screencap:

  3. I laughed out loud at that Manchester photo and showed them to Dave. As for "Wings," I was amazed by that scene when I saw it for the first time. I'm sure it wasn't meant in a "gay" way but it definitely seems so now.
