When half of your nation's voters supports a misogynistic racist as president, it's easy to feel overwhelmed and despairing. That's a sane reaction… for a little while.
Meanwhile, it's encouraging to see the other half at work.
Starting with my state, Minnesota, electing Ilhan Omar!
“Freedom is never really won. You earn it and win it in every generation.
“It is the very nature of this fight
for civil rights and justice and equality that whatever gains we make,
they will not be permanent. So we must be vigilant. Do not despair. Do
not be overwhelmed. Do not throw up our hands when it is time to roll up
our sleeves and fight for who we are.”

ReplyDeleteI needed it too! XO Fresca
ReplyDeleteI couldn't vote for either major candidate (and living in Oregon, it's pretty safe to vote 3rd party). I feel your pain and appreciate the uplifting news bits. Some people tell me I'm wrong about Trump, and I just hope they are right...
ReplyDelete“Do not despair. Do not be overwhelmed”: thank you for sharing that. I just read it over the phone to my daughter.
ReplyDeleteIn good news from yesterday, add Tammy Duckworth, our new senator-elect from Illinois.
There is always hope.
ReplyDeleteWe need it too
Thank you for these rays of light, in the middle of overwhelming despondency. And my feeling on that: "So begins the long national nightmare."
ReplyDeleteDEANNA: I would LOVE it if Trump turns out to be different than he's acted ever since I was aware of him, many years ago!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, yeah, I wish there had been a candidate more people wanted to vote for instead of him---I know a lot of people who just didn't vote for either one, like you.
MICHAEL: I'm glad the quote was helfpul--it was to me too!
GZ: And I was soooo hoping our presidential race *wouldn't* go like Brexit & so forth...
LAURA: It's grim, isn't it. We need art! to give us energy!
