I e-mailed to my 90-year-old auntie this 1842 illustration, (below) of adoring fans of Franz Liszt in concert.
My aunt, who e-mails me every morning from her iPhone, responded,
"Just replace the opera glasses with smartphones."
Nothing new about pretty-boy hearthrobs. Their appeal is lost on me, but the phenomenon is well recorded. No doubt of some sort of evolutionary advantage.
