My First Paisley

Funny, I just can't seem to get back to painting pictures about suicide and genocide and all that. And yet I will spend hours painting a perfectly useless paisley.
Hm, I sure do wonder why...

Well, anyway, here's my first attempt at a paisley, in watercolor. It's a long way from a Kaffe Fassett design or anything, but it was a whole lot of fun. I definitely want to make more.
(It's about 8" x 11".)

I think it's beautiful - love the colors you've put together.

I've read that the paisley (named for Paisley, Scotland where fine woolen shawls with these designs were made) might have been a stylized gourd or squash or even a pomegranate. Regardless, I've always liked them.

I love this, Fresca! Did you start in the middle and work your way out?

Thanks, I do like it too.

CROW: A pomegranate feels right, doesn't it, with its gems hidden inside.

POODLE: Ah, there's an idea! I did it the other way round, from the outside in.
