I loved Star Trek Into Darkness.
Why not? It's a pastiche of a whole bunch of good stuff!
Here're some similarities to other movies I noticed:
1. The Star Trek love triangle [below, left: Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto), and Uhura (Zoe Saldana), 2013]
. . . looks like Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid [below, right: Paul Newman, Katharine Ross, and Robert Redford, 1969]
2. The conference room for Starfleet's top brass in Star Trek Into Darkness (below, upper image)
. . . looks like the War Room in Dr. Strangelove (below, bottom image).
3. And another Dr. Strangelove:
Admiral Marcus (left, Peter Weller), head of Starfleet
...looks like
4. Benedict Cumberbatch's "John Harrison" [below, left: why oh why didn't they make him a believable "Harrison" instead of an unbelievable "Khan"?]
. . . looks like Ralph Fiennes's Lord Voldemort in Harry Potter.
5. ...and Harrison's coat looks like it's out of The Matrix.
6. There's also some Star Wars stuff, of course.
How come I can't find a screencap of the Millenium Falcon flying sideways through a tight spot? I know it did.
And so does Kirk's shuttle.
Since I can't find an image, here's Kirk Solo on deviantart, by disdaining fortune

I loved it too. I didn't get all the refs - though I certainly caught the Millenium Falcon trick. The internal refs were good too - the inversion of Kirk and Spock's roles in this film compared to Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan. I like the who alternate timeline deal - it gives them lots to play with.
ReplyDeleteIt's fun to see these all together! But I'm glad you posted them on FB too.
