MAKE Toys

Quick post--going back to work this morning. From the first day of my trip, the message I got was:

MAKE stuff, preferably toys.
Liz, the owner of the Mariposa Gallery in Albuquerque, on my first afternoon showed me her private bathroom--lined with toys on shelves--after I told her how much I loved the toy-like constructions creations she curated and asked if she'd been to the International Museum of Folk Art.
This is just one section of her private bathroom:

I bought a couple cards, picked up some free fliers, and went home to where Mrs & Mrs are housesitting and collaged them:

The collages are great- love them! Deconstructing and creating, everything old is new again. Her shelves are my dream! I am inspired now, go get some cheap shelves and put toys out instead of under the bed in boxes. They reckon it is about time. The man I live with may not agree....

first i envy your trip to ALB having spent several years there growing up where we could see the mountains across the mesa from the backyard. of course this was in the 60's when neighbors were building shelters in their backyards (never went in) because being down the road from Los Alamos.

my dad was teaching at unm and at one of the graduations vincent price (that one) sat by us way up in the bleachers -- his son was graduating.

i envy that bathroom --the red is to die for and then all of the toys. like linda sue i want to put mine out --a few are out but still more could come out and play.

the collages are so cool. i think i need to spend more time with paper also especially cool images.

Nice work (or play). The fox looks like it could be in an Ingmar Bergman movie.

I think that that amount of toys around me would be too much for me. I am in no way a Zen sort of person when it comes to home decor but that would trigger anxiety. Collages sort of do that for me too.
I sound neurotic.
Okay. I sort of am.
But overall I am glad that YOUR artist soul got fed.

Oh, LINDA SUE, I would die to see your collection of toys on display!!!

KIRSTEN: We drove by Los Alamos--these names of dread from my childhood.... Still lots of science research going on, as you know.
What did your father teach?
The orange-red wall is fantastic, isn't it?--might be too much in another room, but great in a bathroom, and the perfect backdrop for toys!
Would LOVE to see any paper work you come up with!!!

MICHAEL: Thanks! The fox is from Thomas Michael coffee in ABQ.

GZ: THank you--I'm so excited to see what you create when you get back to your workshop!

MS MOON: L'astronave is an apology/self-criticism free zone--please don't feel you need to apologize for yourself in any way here! Everyone has their own aesthetic--no judgment.
That amount of tiny toys might be too much for me too... (probably?). Mostly because of the DUSTING! :)
