Move

Blogger moved me to the New Blogger, for "an improved web experience".

Uh-huh.
I'll give it a try, and if it's as bad as it was when I tried it a month ago, I'll consider moving to Word Press.

Meanwhile, I'm applying for a job in Duluth!
Zenith Bookstore is hiring--I was just there this Monday.
And (t)here I am in 2018:

(OK, it's easy to size uploaded photos now. That's good.)

I love Duluth and have long thought I'd maybe like to live there.
But I think I might be crazy to trade in such a meaningful job for a less meaningful one. I mean, yeah, bookstores are meaningful in themselves, and this one does carry used books.

But...
There'd be no Mr Linens, who last week shared with me a bag of squashed Skittles (we get such damaged goods from our reject-food warehouse) and a canister of pepper spray.

"Take it home and practice with it," he said of the spray. "And if you need, USE IT! Be safe out there."

Yeah. Probably don't want to move.
BUT... I like the reflection that comes with job hunting, so I'm going to apply. It's like joining the dating sites: Welp, don't want that.
(Or, do want that.)

The best thing I got from the dating sites (which I'm entirely off now) was a sense of the Wider World.
There are lots of people out there.

The world is convulsing---it always is, but during Covid and the uprising for Black Lives, it's more obviously doing so right under my feet.

How do I keep my balance?
How do I help others?
How do I help myself?

I'm always pointing to this scene in Toy Story 3.

             In hell? HOLD HANDS!!!

  3. Not wordpress, please...I had my website briefly on there, and it was not user friendly. Neither is commenting on a blog on that platform.
The tame geeks in farcebook and blogland will keep on fiddling...they have to change for change's sake!! We just carry on talking 😎😀

  4. Best wishes for the application. Is Minnesota the Land O’Bookstores? Your used-book selections are impressive; this store looks like something out of a dream. What gives with Minnesota?

  5. I say go for it!

But in all fairness, i will say that despite all of the issues, SVDP allows for freedom in the job which is always good. I remember when I worked for a trade association and despite not liking many of the people I worked with or for, the one thing it did allow me was freedom to basically decided what I worked on within reason. So when considering other jobs that was always in the back of my mind.
