I am envious of blogger Sarah of Circles of Rain for being an accredited Mudlarker on the Thames foreshore!
(Here's her post "Baby Mudlark" after she got her permit from the Port of London Authority.)
Here Minnie is mudlarking at the Lake Hiawatha swimming beach. All she got yesterday was seaweed.

The girlettes want to make sandcastles at this beach. They don't mind cold water, but I do, so that'll have to wait a little while.

Also, I think the city has closed beaches for this pandemic season--perhaps we'd be chased away!
That looks like fun! And Minnie is doing the basic mudlarking thing of having her feet in the mud!Though you wouldn't want to do that with the stinky Thames Mud. Well done Minnie!
ReplyDeleteSARAH: Minnie needs those big rubber boots--waders!--for mucking about.
ReplyDeleteI tried making shoes for the girlettes but their feet are so tiny and my hands are large and clumsy--I gave up. Luckily they like to go barefoot and say their feet are never cold or uncomfortable.
And check out this story of a female mudlark from way back when: http://www.wickedwilliam.com/an-account-of-peggy-jones-the-london-mudlark/
ReplyDeleteI've always thought that profession sounded like a very hard life but in today's world could be quite interesting.

KIRSTEN: OMG, brutal! Sarah mentions the Thames mud is stinky now-- imagine how filthy it was then!
ReplyDeleteStill, "Peggy Jones" is such a great name--I think one of the girlettes might claim it!
I too am envious of Sarah's mudlarking accreditation. Maybe one of these days...
