Help Us Now, Lassie

Well, that looks pretty ineffectual...

  1. I thought it was only in cartoons and comics that branches grew from sheer cliffs and people hung from them. The branches, that is.

To redeem Lassie: maybe he’s a bad guy, and Lassie is biting so that he’ll drop into the arms of the law below. But i doubt it.

  2. Nuh-uh, because she's LASSIE. She has super-canine strength and agility and brainpower! (I like Michael's theory about biting the bad guy, though...)

  3. MICHAEL: Right, only in cartoons and comics, not in REAL life, like Lassie! :)

I did think Lassie was nipping this guy---but I have to agree with STEVE that surely she's using her superdog powers to elevate this park ranger––(a young Mark Trail??)––with her teeth!

  4. Of course the shirt this guy is wearing is made of special puncture-proof space age fabric, to allow Lassie to pull him up safely without tearing the fabric or mangling his bicep.

I have actually seen places (Montana badlands) where branches did grow out of rocks like this...however, I have never clung to those branches. Perhaps if Lassie had been nearby, I might have risked it.

  5. I grew up with that book!!! It's long gone now (maybe that's the actual copy? :p). Of course, Lassie was saving Ranger Stuart!

  6. BINK: I was thinking too small about this scene.

DEANNA: The copy is probably still at the store--I could send it to you!
