An Alarming Sign

This notice in an elevator in a downtown skyscraper does not exactly inspire confidence, does it?
Feel free to rewrite.

P.S. There was no button marked ALARM.

  1. Maybe Star-M means alarm? Was there an internal telephone instead? Or it just wants you to know if you don't have a cellphone to call out, you will die in there before you are found.

  2. Quick, before I’m out the (non-elevator) door:

First, Install alarm button. And then this signage:

    IF STUCK, PRESS ALARM BUTTON.

DO NOT TRY TO OPEN DOORS.

(And what is a hatch anyway?)

  3. BINK: Ha! Yes--if you don't have a cellphone, then you are doomed!

MICHAEL: That's it! All you need to know... and the meaning should be clear even to someone who might have become alarmed despite wordy reassurances.

I think the hatch must be the opening in the roof of the elevator car--I've seen it in the movies.
