Laura B.'s German boyfriend chose this plastic needle case out of his own sewing kit and sent it home with her, as a present for me!
It's the cleverest contraption--I've never seen anything quite like it.
The pink thimble screws onto the tube.
Inside the tube is a spool with three colors of thread wrap around it. Unscrew the spool's blue cap, and inside the spool are needles.

Etui?
That's so clever! How nice of him to send it to you.
ZHOEN: Oh! I had never heard that word!
Yes: "a small ornamental case for holding needles, cosmetics, and other articles. Origin: early 17th century: from French étui, from Old French estui ‘prison,’ from estuier ‘shut up, keep.’
* * *Compare with "tweezers"."
CROW: Yeah, he's a nice guy. (Also, Marz gave him a trombone last year.)
Sweet!
