Garbage Day

Photographer Gregg Segal recruited people to save 7 days of garbage and then lie in it and let him photograph them.
Above, "Marsha and Steve", floating

Glad® (the plastic-bags makers) did a similar project, Waste in Focus, but their images are much tidier (and less disturbing).
Below, "The Griffin Family"

Yeah, that second one is disturbing in a different way.

What with recycling and composting, we don't have that much, really. But it would include cat shit/piss in litter, the stinky stuff from the freezer holding bin, lots of used tissues -especially this time of year, and depending on the time of month... well, it wouldn't look that tidy.

The first photo reminds me of the aftermath of Hurricane Betsy, which tore through the 9th ward where we lived in 1965, but is more representative of Katrina, 40 years later...except these bodies are still alive. Gives me shivers.

ZHOEN: You're right--they're both disturbing, but in different ways.

Pet waste---I didn't mention that in the toilet book, maybe it'll figure in Garbage...

CROW: The floating in water, yeah--it's shivery all right.
