Solstice Dress

How perfect—yesterday as I was wishing my coworker at the cash register a happy solstice, I spied a Sun, Earth + Moon dress on a nearby rack. Coworkers who love clothes, like Emmler, dig out fantastic finds for cheap, but I almost never look at clothes, because I don’t care.

I bought this one though (it was half-off—only $4–but I’d have paid full price). Unfortunately it’s polyester—hot—but I cut off the sleeves and collars, and wearing a dress is cool on the legs at least…

You can see the light of the donations door, in the background—the heat and humidity pour in—we’re working in a sauna.

I’m sorting a box of incoming toys here.

  1. SCORE on the frock!! Heat undoes people and we are headed in that direction all over the globe. Get used to it or die- I will do the later - cannot live in heat. SO- the weather we are having right now up here in the northwest is just perfect- Still wearing winterish gear.

    1. LINDA SUE: I love that word “frock”—have you read Barbara Pym (London 1950s)?

  2. "Frock" is an excellent word. I used to make dresses that I called frocks because they were just so...frocky.
    I like that one!
Don't even talk to me about heat. Okay. Go ahead. I'm going to go jump in the river.

  3. MS MOON: you win for heat, there is no doubt. But I do wish my workplace had a system to block incoming heat & cold, like other thrift stores I’ve worked at had. 🙄

  5. great dress for the heat! although the polyester would annoy me! kudos for realizing how to make it more comfortable.

i also love big flowy skirts (think gauzy and cotton) for the summer.
