Girlette Fashion Week continues with a pantsuit for a snow day, worn here by Stripe. (I have the day off because the thrift store closed due to bad roads.) The pantsuit is made from a pair of big baby doll bloomers, one from a haul of old handmade doll clothes at the store.
Stripe's fascinator is made from a ketchup packet I found at the bus stop yesterday. The tiny tomato picks up the little red flowers of the pantsuit.
The ketchup packet's fabric is so strong and almost indestructible––it's made from layers of plastic and metal foil––you could maybe make human-sized clothes from it. Except the packets are designed to tear in one direction, so you'd have to crisscross them?
Not sure.
Reminds me--Vivienne Westwood said people buy too many clothes: "Clothes should cost an awful lot more than they do. But we do need clothes..."
Her motto:
"Buy less. Choose well. Make it last."(--via video interview w the Guardian, and elsewhere)
P.S. someone on Instagram said they couldn't believe the girlette's feet weren't cold in the snow. The girlettes have explained to me, however, that they don't get cold: "We're plastic," they say, rolling their eyes, and then they go back to playing.
The girlettes are mighty fine models of Fresca wear 2023. How clever and incredibly chic! LOVE The orphans are inspired but all they could find in the dolly dept was a pair of granny pants.
ReplyDeleteStripe looks good and happy, striding out in the snow!
ReplyDeleteWell. If that is not the height of chic, I do not know what is. I am so glad to hear that the girlettes do not suffer the cold.
ReplyDeleteLINDA SUE: I LOVE your granny disco!!! Mine have some granny pants–type items they're working on too--just pin em up...
ReplyDeleteGZ: We had the biggest snow storm in ages---it's way over the dolls' heads now.
MS MOON: Thanks. The girlettes are no usually going for chic, but they love costumes of all sorts!
Very hand to be a doll, where weather is concerned.
love this outfit!!! and now i want this one.
ReplyDeleteto vivienne's list i would add: buy quality secondhand. virtually all of my clothes are secondhand but i'm rather picky what i buy -- not just any secondhand clothes.
i'm now on a hunt for doll clothes for rita and ava as they are now demanding why can't they participate in fashion week
kirsten
KIRSTEN: The girlettes and I are very excited that Rita and Ava might join them for Fashion Week!
ReplyDeleteI hope so!
If you email me photos, I'd love to post them, if that's okay.
PS Yes, definitely buy secondhand clothes. They already exist!
