Whoops-/posted sideways… (I'm on my phone.) GZ, or anyone know what these fruits are? Look like plums? They grow on a bike path public park and I could forage them… but what are they? What would I do with them?
looks like gage tree plum, a rich and delicious plum a favorite Iranian dessert...a late season eating plum. Gather some and see , you will not die guaranteed!- so says google search.
Thanks, Linda Sue & Jennifer! I was too tired after work to pick any... but most of them were yellow and hard, so I hope they'll ripen by the time I get back in two days. I will definitely try making jam.
i like to make compote in the summer using less sugar than is called for. when warm so great on toast. also freeze it after it cools for a future treat.

ReplyDeletebasically cut up the fruit in piece -- i leave the skin on
i put the fruit in a stainless steel pan lemon juice -1-2 teaspoons and then sugar about 1/4 c or less depending on how much fruit you have
bring to a boil and continue for about 5 minutes. once it boils i'll taste it (hot!!) to see if the tart and sweet balance is good
then i turn the heat down and simmer for about 7 minutes. i usually have some liquid left but that doesn't bother me to have it.
i've made compote with strawberries, strawberries and nectarines, and peaches only. a great way to use fruit that is quickly becoming quite ripe.
