I love stories of reluctant prophets--seems like people mostly don't want the job. I can relate--it's hard, and generally thankless.
It cracks me up that the prophets-to-be even argue with God about it. Moses, for instance, tells God to send someone else. (Exodus 4:13) I don't know where some Christians get the idea God wants mindless obedience--folks in the Bible were always arguing with God--and, in the NT, with God's son. ("Don't wash my feet!")
In this story (1 Kings 19:4–5 ), Elijah is so stressed by the job, he tells God, "I've had enough"––actual quote!–– and lies down under some shrubbery to die.
But an angel comes ...with snacks! (warm bread, and water) and says, “Get up and eat, the journey is too much for you.”
Elijah eats, but then lies down AGAIN, so the angel has to come back, like an alarm clock on snooze.
I love this stuff.
