Parts in Paisley

I've interpreted another internal organ in paisley--actually, there are a few parts here. The proportions and locations aren't exactly correct, but you might be able to recognize which part(s) of the human anatomy make up this paisley.
Can you?
I'll put the answer in the comments.

HINT: I don't know anyone who needs this as a Get Well card, that I know of, I hope, but many of us could use help managing stress, and one of the parts here does that.

  1. ANSWER: The main organ is the kidney, with its lobes, which here look like ginko leaves.

On top of the kidney sits an adrenal gland, which, among other things, releases cortisol and other hormones in reaction to stress.

The kidney drains into the bladder, that orangey circular thing to the lower right.

I added the pair of little paisleys for no anatomical reason--I guess they must be gonads (testes or ovaries), though those aren't directly related to the kidneys.

  2. P.S. I wasn't my intention, but it looks like maybe this paisley has a bladder infection?

  3. A bit like when there are medical clues in crossword puzzles, I just get flummoxed. Spent so much time drawing kidneys for my anatomy classes. It's all covered in your artistic license, but I can't help but see it from the accuracy pov.

  4. The CROW SAYS...
I can see it now: "The Body Paisley," a new art book that reinterprets the human body through the form of paisleys. By Francesca D, 2014. Available in bookstores everywhere and online from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, et al.

I'd like to pre-order one from you, please.

  5. ZHOEN: I can imagine that you knowing what a kidney REALLY looks like would be a disadvantage in recognizing this, ahem, "kidney".

I took off from this image:

  6. Thanks, Crow! I do want to keep doing these--they're a lot of fun and surprisingly stress-reducing.
Consider your copy pre-ordered! (Though I may run out of body parts before long.)

Btw, I hope you don't mind--I reposted your comment and took my last name out---I'd rather no prospective future employer found me here---not that I have anything to hide (except a perverted interest in Captain Kirk...).

  7. Too many years on the transplant team, I know the feel of a kidney in my palm.

  8. Sorry about that, Fresca! I wasn't thinking.

  9. CROW: Oh, no problem! I'm kind of careless about using my name myself...

  10. Fresca,

    Are you secretly famous? Lawks!

  11. ZHOEN: Ha! If I'm famous, it's so secret even I don't know about it.
