Astronaut TJ Creamer sent the first direct tweet from the International Space Station, in January 2010:

Should I send my question? "Does your training prepare you for a simultaneous seduction and attack by fun-fur-clad aliens?"

  3. OK, with the above encouragement (and threat), I went back to Twitter thinking I really could ask the astronaut more about training, but he's back on Earth again and not tweeting.

What really strikes me is that people aren't unafraid naturally---it takes training.
    I'm sure that's well covered at C-KAPE.

  4. I hadn't noticed before, but I think that alien proves the link between reptiles and birds by its clear genetic relation to the flying monkeys in the Wizard of Oz.

  5. ARTS: Your keen observation imply you must be a biologist!

  6. The line between seduction and attack is so very blurry, especially when fake fur is involved. The Gorn needed a little more fake fur for his role, I suspect.

Also, live tweeting from space! I'm reading some Carl Sagan recently, from 1994--he always sounds so forward-thinking and futuristic and then now and then he says something that dates him, like his discussion of "global positioning devices in existence that are as small as a short wave radio." I wonder what he would have thought of Twitter...

  7. JENN: I want someone to photoshop that orange fun-fur bra onto the Gorn!

One day we will look back and laugh at how clunky our Internet was.
Or, as Tyler says in "Fight Club," we'll be climbing skyscrapers on vines and looking down on people drying strips of elk meat on the pavement below...
