State Fair
A few notes on the pictures: The two boys are carving butter sculptures. "Pie on a stick" is fresh fruit on a skewer, dipped in batter, and fried. I asked. bink won that stuffed orca playing whac-a-mole [sic].
After the Midway--and 249 photos--my camera battery died, so I didn't get the antique tractors, the giant dahlias, the fried walleye, and so much more. But you get the idea.
I had not been to the fair in maybe ten years, and its "ethnic" nature really struck me too. You can see its roots in the gathering of Teutonic Tribes and their herds, crops, and games.
I almost want to go again and photograph the half I missed. It's a big outing, though... don't know if I'm up for it.
In the past, I have gone multiple times with different objectives: to see the animals and horse show; to see the crafts, pickles and exhibits; with kids to do kiddie stuff; on a food trek. This year, we'll bring a friend from out of town, and I will eat the sweet potato pie and swipe a few mini-donuts from my kid. Oh, and see the crop art.
These photos are ah-MAZing! we are going on Saturday with a friend visiting from England. As Blas says, "very ethnic"!
ReplyDeletetotally captures the day!
ReplyDeleteYour photos took me right to the fair. Now I don't have to go!

ReplyDeleteI love the way you capture the textures and colors of things. Also, ampli-calf? Sounds spooky...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Jen: the fair is a "hay"-day of textures and colors (and allergies). Future-Cow/ampli-calf is the spookiest thing I saw there.
