K/S, Italian Style

Guest-blogger Bink responds to the question, "What's Your Flavor?", in Italian for Beginners. She helpfully illustrated a glossary (left) and provided the English translation in a comment (click on "comments" at end).

She writes: "In answer to your question I submit the attached story. It uses your favorite word--cucchiaio, and mine--zanzera. And of course, is a true story."

Il Sapore.

“La teleconferenza per lei, Capitano,” dice Uhura.

K: “Pronto! Sono Kirk.”

Sulu: “Ecco Sulu. Come va con Spock? Dove andavate in vacanza?”

K: “Andavamo in il pianeta di Gorn. Tu sai Spock parla la linqua di Gorn molto bene. La lingua e tutti le parolacce tranne le parole per gli insetti. I Gorn hanno amato mangiare gli insetti gigantesci!”

Sulu: “Ma, Spock? Come va con Spock?”

K: “O, Spock…Spock me piace…la sua bocca…i suoi baci…con panna…”

Sulu: “Panna?”

K: "Si, e la panna e molto difficile tovarve alla Gorn! Gli insetti grandi…si! Gli insetti gelati…si! Ma panna…no! I Gorn fanno un gelato molto buono con piccoli insetti, ma solo senza panna. Non credevo!”

Sulu: “Cosi Spock aveva un buon sapore?”

K: "Si…come la panna, e la neve, e le zanzere. Posso mangiare lui con un cucchiaio!”

Bink adds: Two things to note:

The last sentence is something Poodletail says (though not about Spock).

Panna is always offered with gelati in Italy, so you can understand Kirk being incredulous that it isn’t offered on Gorn… I guess that’s why most of us prefer to vacation in Italy.

  1. Rough Translation from author Bink:

    The Taste.

Uhura says, “The teleconference is for you, Captain”.

    “Hello! This is Kirk.”

“Sulu here. How did it go with Spock? Where did you guys go on vacation?”

K: “ We went to the planet of the Gorn. You know Spock speaks the Gorn language very well. It’s a language that is totally swearwords, except for the words about insects. The Gorn love to eat giant insects!”

“But, Spock? How did it go with Spock?”

    K: “O, Spock…Spock pleases me…his mouth…his kisses…with whipped cream…

    “Whipped cream?”

K: “Yes, and whipped cream is very difficult to find on Gorn! Big insects…yes! Insect ice cream…yes! But whipped cream…no! The Gorn make a really good ice cream with small insects, but you can only get it without whipped cream. I couldn’t believe it!”

    “So Spock tasted good?”

K: “Yes…like whipped cream, and snow, and mosquitoes. I could eat him with a spoon.”

  2. I think the panna is usually not canned in Italy, either--at least it wasn't in Sicily but came from a big bowl of freshly whipped cream.
Those Gorn don't deserve anything so good, anyway. It would be wasted on insect gelato.

  3. I think the Gorn themselves don't eat panna...it's imported strictly for tourists, like Kirk. Which is why it isn't fresh (like in Sicily)...and hard to find.

  5. Joop looks slightly Gornish according to your illustration. I could ... well, you know.
    P.S. Bink, I'm ultra-impressed with your Italian!

  6. Note to Poodletail: You will note from the story that I am finally beyond the present tense...I've learned (at least in theory) the imperfect (past) tense! Since community ed doesn't offer classes beyond Italian I & 2...I will probably never learn the future tense...or the "present subjunctive"; "past historic"; "present conditional"; "gerund"; "past participle" or "imperative"...I hardly know what any of that means...but since I can order gelato without knowing it maybe I won't miss it.

  7. That Gorn illustration is waaaaay too cute! It does not reflect reality. But I love it.

  8. Oh my god, this is so funny! I should try it in French....

Uhuru dit, "La teleconference, c'est pour vous, Capitain."

    "Allo, c'est Kirk a l'appareil."

    etc etc etc
