This phrase is from William Shatner's latest Priceline ad (it's advice on bidding on hotel rooms...).

(Hurricane Bill was the first hurricane of the 2009 storm season. It blew a lot of air around, but didn't do much damage.)
Update: Canadians are relieved: Hurricane Bill downgraded to a tropical storm.

5. July 7, 2009 Джим Кирк! = Jim Kirk! Made from a screencap off Стар Трек, любовь моя, the Russian translation of my fan vid "Star Trek, My Love". Translation by Russian Trekker "Capt. J. L. Paparazzzzi". We worked on this the week Obama was visiting Moscow.

4. July 1, 2009Caption cadged from P. G. Wodehouse, where I first encountered the word espièglerie (friskiness, as it were): "equipped with eyes like twin stars, hair ruddier than the cherry, oomph, espièglerie and all the fixings, Roberta had also the disposition and general outlook on life of a ticking bomb. You never knew what she was going to do next or into what murky depths of soup she would carelessly plunge you." --from Jeeves in the Offing.

K/S 'shippers will know, this slogan is inspired by a bit of dialogue from the episode "The Corbomite Maneuver":
Mr. Spock: Has it occurred to you that there is a certain... inefficiency in constantly questioning me on things you've already made up your mind about?
Capt. Kirk: It gives me emotional security.
(Screencap: "The Conscience of the King")

FIRST WEEK 6-11-09

Annika challenged me to do a daily calendar of The Many Moods of Kirk. I think I'd better start with a weekly one. Does everyone recognize the quote? Ah yes, here it is, #12 in the AFI's top 100 American movie quotes.

These are other Kirk posters I made before I started this "Kirk of the Week" project. I thought I'd gather them all together here.

Towel Day honors Douglas Adams every year on May 25.

"Meat Loves Salt" is a quote from Shakespeare's King Lear. I made this as the thirteenth of twelve monthly pieces for my 2009 Star Trek Motivational Calendar, so it never really had a home, until now.

  1. Oh, this is a fantastic idea! I hope you'll consider throwing some Spock in there as well, although the good Captain does have a way of hogging the screen time. :)

I've never even seen Apocalypse Now and I still get the reference. :)

  2. HI, Jen: It's just that Shatner has about a million expressions, and of course Nimoy was keeping Spock as blank as he could, so he's just not as easy to play with. But there are a few good Spock shots, yes, and if I really do this weekly, I'm sure I'll get around to them.

That's what I thought about the quote--it's like I never saw "Jerry Mcguire" but I know "show me the money."

  3. Hey Fresca,

I just spent a whole chunk of “should-have-been-doing-something-on-my-list” time, goofing off watching your videos.

I know the grrls would love the disinherited. I know Queerscreen would love it if you sent it to them.

Thanks for finding me, I have subscribed to your stuff.

    Cheers,
    Denise

  4. Thanks Denise!
I'm honored my videos were entertaining enough to keep you watching.

And thanks for alerting me to Queerscreen, which I'd never heard of. Looks like you have to be Australian to participate, but I want to go back and watch more indie films.

I look forward to more guerrilla knitting!
    My best,
    Fresca
