Communication!<br /><br />In Lives of a Cell (and I'll paraphrase this badly) he is talking about ants, and their compulsive building of tunnels, and how they are seemingly unaware of any grander structure they may be building. He tries to come up with something analogous that humans do compulsively. We communicate. And build something grand in doing so, without even realizing it.<br /><br />Yes. Badly paraphrased.
