Name That Painting, II

Can you name this painting?

Note: These toys are paid professionals.* No one was harmed.

It's my day off, it's snowing, and . . . am I getting a little bit obsessed with Toys Recreating Paintings?

Well, if I am, it's a good thing.
The problem is so intriguing: how can I recreate 2D art with the contents of my sewing basket?
It's amazing, too, looking more closely at famous paintings. (This is only sort-of famous, not Top Ten.) I notice little things I hadn't before--here, the tiny bits of blood on the hand on the chest and the chest.

*Hm. Now the toys are asking what they are to be paid!

  1. I'm not going to name the painting...but I found it through a clue in your prior post's comments. I wasn't familiar with this painting, but looked it up--and sure enough--you did a very apt interpretation. The acting by the bear here is superb: very tragic and moving.

This re-creation reminded me immediately of the painting, The Death of Marat. I guess because it's the obviously dead and holding on to something. But of course, without a bathtub, I knew it wasn't that.

And then, there was knowing it's Manet week...

Hope my little hints help some other commenter discover this painting.

  2. Agree- Bear's acting is superb! The blood is also doing a good job. The "silk" or whatever, should get paid but really all she/it has to do is lie on it's face.

    Have you seen Manet's dogs?

  3. BINK: Bear is gratified to have your recognition of his hard work. He had to get his ear pinned to the chair to hold the position! He didn't mind though.

Neither you nor sister knew the Dead Toreador painting, so it's even more obscure than I thought. I must have seen it once and been struck by it---how floaty the body is, and the PINK cape! (Also the fabric at his waist and neck is very pale pink.)

Death of Marat has that wonderful green fabric across the bathtub! Maybe we should do that...

LINDA SUE: "All is forgiven, Manet, for the sake of your dog paintings."
    Bob! for godssake!
    Thank you, LS.

Bear and blood worked hard, it's true, but indeed Silk just laid on her face giggling, "I'm dead, I'm dead".
Still, she's integral, and PINK! she is to be paid too.
