Pulsing Entities (w/ correction)

I started reading Halan Coben's The Boy from the Woods (2020) last night. I got it at the library because Tororo did a round-up of books that are set in the woods* and included Coben's.

Here's a sample of Coben's writing. * 
Coben describes a character (p. 47):

"Laila had this passion and energy that turned her beauty into a living, breathing, pulsating entity."

I read it aloud to Marz on the phone last night:
What's wrong with this sentence?

She said, "Nothing. It works because you know what he means." [Not exactly what she said; see 1st paragraph of post.]

Reminds me, Haruki Murkami said he likes reading Lee Child's crime/thrillers (the Jack Reacher novels) because they are all the same.

So, yeah, clichéd writing--nothing wrong with that if you want it to go down smooth and easy.
But that description didn't--it snagged and stuck.

The rough bit for me is "pulsating entity".
Pulsating entity? Pulsating?
What would you think if someone told you your beauty was a pulsating entity?

I'd think of the pulsating energy being, The Companion, in the Star Trek episode "Metamorphosis" (1967). (One of those problematic sexist episodes that is bad, but onto something. It's like watching something struggle--and fail--to break free and get born. But it is trying.
As often, Spock is the only one who gets it.)

Maybe not what Coben had in mind.

In the late 1960s, NBC didn't allow Star Trek to show hot sexual contact--"no open-mouth kisses".
Kirk is often writhing around, open-mouthed, however (in pain).

** As Tororo says, Coben is "the exact opposite of" Olga Tokarczuk and her fantastic walk in the woods, Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead.

Tokarczuk said she wrote a murder mystery to have a nice break from her usual work. She might have found it restful, writing in genre form––(she won a "Nobel Prize for Literature for her "narrative imagination")––but none of her sentences coast by, counting on the reader already knowing what she means.

Drive Your Plow is so, so good--if you haven't read it, I highly recommend it.

I see why people enjoy Coben––mysterious psychological stuff happens right away––but 47 pages is enough for me.
