The managers had not noticed that yesterday was a national holiday, as the second Monday in October always is:
Indigenous People's Day, which used to be (and still often is called) Columbus Day. Banks (and post offices, etc.) are closed, so the store couldn't get cash for making small change at the register.
Manageress went around and asked everyone if they had dollar bills or quarters to exchange for $5 bills.
I lent the store four dollars.
A bag of amazing antique toys got donated. (Antique is older than vintage.) The best toy donation in the two years I've been doing toys. The woman who did toys before me would have declared such antiques old and dirty and thrown them out!
I brought them home to research.
First off, I asked my toy sleuth IG friend Fiona if she could find out anything about the monkey on the far left.
Yes, she could:
That's Trikko, by Norah Wellings, from the 1930s!
More on this NW blog.
The chair the toys are sitting in is the LAST THING I've needed for Apartment 320.
I got two of them yesterday--from the thrift store, of course, originally from IKEA. They're very comfy and seem to be new.
I've been using an outdoor garden chair for a desk chair--not at the right angle at all--and I had nowhere comfy for more than one person to sit.
Now I have plates and silverware, pots and pans, a pair of bookshelves and a pair of chairs... I can't think of anything else I need!
Oh--yes--a good, down, knee-length winter coat.
My old one fell apart.
I hope one that fits me will come in the store--quite possible--otherwise they're very expensive.
And now--off on a field trip with my sister, in her car. Yay!
It's the last warm day forecast this season: it's supposed to be 80ºF / 26.6 C.
Tootle-oo from me and Trikko! (I may have to keep Trikko...)
They do look special and worth TLC!
ReplyDeleteThere is not price appropriate for the "antique" pals. They are priceless! They look like love to me! Let me know what the price ends up being... Your coat will come probably in the nick of time! The order is out there in the universe of finding things.
ReplyDeleteI think that the cat and bear want to live with me in my house...
ReplyDeleteNo, not bear- the others would be jealous, the cat and elephant is what I meant.
ReplyDeleteand the bear can come live with me.
