MICHAEL: I didn't grow up with the Eloise books, but when I saw one at the store recently, I definitely thought RED HAIR GIRL TRIBE! (Along with Pippi Longstockings and--a character I did grow up reading, Joan Aiken's Dido Twite.)
RIVER: I was thinking, "This isn't quite right"---and then thought, well, if I wanted it exact I could take a photo.
