Prop master bink (in background) designed nine pairs of Mary Jane shoes for the upcoming filming of Undaunted: Penny in Cooper in the Blitz. She made the shoes out of black construction paper.
They're super, says Penny Cooper.
Meanwhile, in the 90ยบ heat I'm sewing wool coats for the girlettes.
You always see the child-evacuees at train stations wearing coats.
The first evacuations of children from London started on September 1, 1939, when Germany attacked Poland. (Britain declared war On Sept. 3.*
"In the first three days of official evacuation, 1.5 million people were moved: [including] 827,000 children of school age," per Wikipedia.

"This morning, the British Ambassador in Berlin handed the German Government a final note, stating that unless we heard from them by 11 O'clock that they were prepared at once to withdraw their troops from Poland a state of war would exist between us. I have to tell you now that no such undertaking has been received and that consequently this country is at war with Germany."
What a great project! I am reading a book about animals in the war and I didn't realise that many were evacuated, and many more were killed for fear of raids and food shortages. It is an interesting subject but one of the worst written books I have ever read! The author keeps asking questions which she then goes on to ignore and never answer. But, the pictures are good and you can tell she did lots of good research. Maybe she just needed a better editor. Anyway, I look forward to seeing more of your project.
ReplyDeleteSARAH: Ergh, interesting topic, animals in war, but questions left dangling are a huge pet peeve of mine. I fume, WHERE IS THE EDITOR?
ReplyDeleteI used to work as a proofread for texts that had already been edited. I often suggested editing them further, as in,
"The author never answers this question. Cut?"
