Geranium Season

Our growing season up north here (300 miles south of Canada) has changed––used to be you couldn't safely plant until Memorial Day at the end of May, but now it's early May.

Red geraniums make me happy.
Due to squirrels, I never plant anything edible on my porch. During dry spells, squirrels will dig in the geranium pots--but they don't eat the plants. Not sure what they're after. Cool, wet soil, I guess?

This is Bounce (once Lulu LaFlame), one of the orphans from Las Vegas, excited to be "in nature", she says.

  1. We have a patio table with those same tiles. I think one of our tiles is an exact match. Barbecue pretty soon in a few hours and I'll look closer. The squirrels are digging for worms or any other burrowing insects. But you know that I'm sure. They are cute but destructive little beasts.

  2. Our squirrels dig whether it's damp or dry. They don't seem to care! I love your tiled table!

  3. UNKNOWN: Ah, I hadn't thought the squirrels might be digging for bugs. Makes sense.

The tiled table was made in China, so there are probably zillions across the USA... But it is real ceramic, and I love it.

STEVE: At least the squirrels make me laugh...
As long as I don't try to grow things they eat!
One year I grew squash and got SO FRUSTRATED with how they'd wait until the squash blossoms were at the perfect moment, and then sever them at the stem with their sharp little teeth.
