Taking the Silver Lady Bus to Hutch's Hometown

Ohboy! A friend has offered me the use of an empty house in Duluth--the hometown of one Ken "Hutch" Hutchinson (David Soul).
[Related post: "Hutch's Duluth"]

I could soooo use a break, sitting by a Great Lake. It doesn't smell like salt, but it sure feels like an ocean.

Lookin' Minnesotan:
HUTCH: I've been in love with ships and the sea since I was old enough to read. I was a Sea Scout when I was a kid.
STARSKY: Hutch. You were born in Duluth, Minnesota. That's 1000 miles from any ocean.
H: It's 1,500 miles.
S: Then how did you become a Sea Scout?

H: It wasn't easy.
[Starsky wins. It's 994 miles as the crow flies from Duluth to Brooklyn, where Starsky grew up, near the Atlantic Ocean––
 or 1,263 miles by car.

Also, I guess the writers didn't know Duluth's port does host ocean-going ships.]

I'm taking the bus up next week.
Will I get this driver?

Duluth is a fog to me. Literally, fog so thick the one time I drove through there, I saw nothing but indications I was on a freeway. Green Bay was very pretty, got off the ferry from Michigan there, very early one morning.

All the Great Lakes are freshwater inland seas, with Coast Guards and ocean going ships. Sounds like a show written by a bunch of Californians.

ZHOEN: California writers, that must be it: the only ocean they recognize is the Pacific, and Duluth to Los Angeles is indeed 1,5000 miles (in a straight line).

And the Great Lakes are not in their sites at all.
"Due to their sea-like characteristics (rolling waves, sustained winds, strong currents, great depths, and distant horizons) the five Great Lakes have also long been referred to as inland seas.
Lake Superior [Duluth's lake] is the second largest lake in the world by area..."

OMG, I'd never seen that commercial! It's so...Shatner.

MARZ: Yeah, and I'd have thought Paul was the more Shatner-like one.
