Ken Russell Does Sports

.
LEFT: Italian poster for Women in Love, from here.

It took 3 (three!) of you astute commenters to get through to me that is it Kurt, not Ken, Russell in the sports movie Miracle.

Silly me! Hockey wasn't Ken's scene.
Wrestling was.

For my penance, I will post a few pix of the famous nude wrestling scene between Oliver Reed and Alan Bates in Ken Russell's 1969 adaptation of D. H. Lawrence's Women in Love,
a movie that galvanized me when I was fifteen, but which now I find too, too squirm-making
...all that anguished swanning about in wheat fields...
Still, the boys do look nice in the firelight, don't they?

I see you did not succumb to the temptation to photoshop other faces on to the wrestlers- shows great strength of character.

Actually, I'm afraid it only shows I don't have photoshop!

My oh my! I do believe I missed this movie. And in speaking of Kurt Russell, in the greatest hockey story of all time, it was odd to have them look back at the Olympics at this story and see how much Kurt looked like the coach he played. A little more muscular, perhaps, but he was good in that movie.

Oh, I remember this!I was riveted by Glenda Jackson in this movie.

FMNSMO: Yes, KURT Russell was very like the real coach. I think "Women in Love" is worth watching, even though some of the emotion is over the top, in a very late-60s way.

MOMO: Me too! She won an Academy Award for it, I just discovered.
