Hi, Deanna: That painterly light is the yellowish cast of the streetlight coupled with the camera's slow lens in the low light. I love digital cameras: I never knew anything about photography--I mean, I don't know how to control it, I just take a lot of photos until I get one I like.
Living in MN, you either take on the cold or you stay in all winter and go crazy!
