I agree the last line seems to have nearly no connection to the rest, and yet it's so evocative.Jenniferhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13923745480765984429noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7229875339727095184.post-88290190587570672552009-04-07T16:56:00.000-05:002009-04-07T16:56:00.000-05:00Hi, Rudy! I'm so glad you bring that novella up: I almost mentioned it as the other piece of writing about adultery that resonated with me, but I thought I'd just stick with poetry.

Where Dickey takes the man's pov, you're right, Dubus takes the woman's and in that story especially I have to admit that I was surprised an ex-Marine got the perspective so right.
He's also an example of a Catholic who's good talking about sex, yeah?

You also remind me to put Dubus on my Favorite Books list because he is one of my favorite writers too. I want to reread him now--it's been a long while. Of course my copies of his books are gone along with all the others I jettisoned, but, heh, heh... He is one of my favorite writers, particularly when it comes to writing from the viewpoint of a woman. I'm not saying, necessarily, that his short story would resonate with you like the Dickey poem, but it is almost unbearably poignant and sad (like so much of his writing) and I couldn't help thinking of it. He was such a fascinating man--I'm still sad he died of a heart attack--he was fairly young--early 60's or so.Rudyinparishttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13527306418916412817noreply@blogger.com
