There's singing in Manchester.

Our old blog friend Manfred Allseasons works in Manchester, and he emailed me about how the crowd there in St Ann’s Square sang "Don't Look Back in Anger" (1996) by Oasis (a Manchester band) today after the one-minute nationwide silence, honoring the 22 people killed in the Manchester Arena bombing.
He wrote, it was "a very, very Mancunian thing to do.... i love this city."

The Guardian reports it started with one woman singing:

"Slip inside the eye of your mind
Don't you know you might find
A better place to play?
You said that you'd never been
But all the things that you've seen
They slowly fade away
"So I'll start a revolution from my bed
Cause you said the brains I had went to my head
Step outside, summertime's in bloom
Stand up beside the fireplace
Take that look from off your face
You ain't ever gonna burn my heart out
"And so, Sally can wait
She knows it's too late as we're walking on by
Her soul slides away
But don't look back in anger
I heard you say
At least not today."

Well, that's enough to make you bawl...which I did.

CROW: Me too.
And then I got thinking what my city would sing... if it happened here (which, horrible to say, doesn't seem impossible).
Home of Prince, I think we would sing "Purple Rain."
