Early ST XI Reports Sound Good

If you're in town on Thursday, May 7, 7 p.m., and wanna go, let's make it a party!

I've been worried that the upcoming Star Trek XI would be a travesty, but reports from the preview in London are reassuringly good. Here's yesterday's word--no synopsis, no spoilers--from Andrew Collins's blog Never Knowingly Underwhelmed: "I'm a doctor, not a physicist".
Sounds like a direct hit. Even if Chris Pines's body language (above, hands on hips) continues to read way too macho for the pudding-eating Kirk I love.
Collins is writing a full review for the London Times due this Saturday--I'll watch for that and post it if it's good--it'll include an interview with Simon Pegg, so surely it will be.

Not a review of the movie, but Mark Simpson offers his analysis: "Star Trek Boldy Goes into the Obama Era".

I'm trying not to get too excited about it, but non-spoilery reports from friends in Australia look very, very good. *squirms a bit* I've resisted looking at Japanese release dates because that'll make it too real and/or be way too depressing (a lot of movies don't come out for five, six months in Japan--I don't know why, it's always MUCH later here than anywhere else in the world).

But it does look very promising.

Jen: MONTHS??? Please fly back here for May 8 and come to the movie with me. I'll buy you popcorn!

Confession: When the final Star Wars movie was released six months late in Japan, we flew to Australia for the opening weekend to see it. :) (Dan really loves his Star Wars!)

OK, then! Let's meet there! : )

*gives up and checks*

IMDB tells the story of my fannish life: the movie opens May 7 or 8 everywhere in the world except Egypt (May 13) and Japan (May 29). Well, that's a lot better than six months. But I'm mystified as to why Japan is almost always late, and almost always alone...

OK, then, that's not so bad. We can save the airfare for multiple viewings (I hope) and buying related products... I already have my ST PEZ, which I plan on eating in the theater, if I can close my mouth long enough. (I figure I'll either be gaping, weeping, or yawning.)

Ha ha, I've been hearing so much from Orthodox circles lately, that when I just read ST PEZ above, I nearly thought, "Is there a St. Pez?" Anyway, wish I could hop over to your town to see ST, but we'll probably just go on my birthday, the week after the opening. I'm glad it sounds like a good time!

What a great birthday present... I hope!
